2011 OSBA Convention Seminar to feature MINDING YOUR OWN BUSINESS: The Solo and Small Firm Lawyer’s Guide to a Profitable Practice

OBLIC will again present a joint seminar with the OSBA Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Section Board of Governors at the 2011 OSBA Annual Convention in Columbus, Ohio. The seminar on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Columbus Convention Center titled MINDING YOUR OWN BUSINESS: The Solo and Small Firm Lawyer’s Guide to a Profitable Practice will convene at 2:15 PM with a keynote presentation by Ann M. Guinn, author of the book by that name recently published by the ABA GP/Solo Division.

Ms. Guinn will be followed by a panel discussion Professionalism and Practical Pointers for Minding Your Own Business – “Views of what works in the real world.” The panel will be moderated by Gretchen Koehler Mote, Director of Loss Prevention and Claims Counsel at Ohio Bar Liability Insurance Company, with panelists Ann M. Guinn, featured speaker, The Honorable Patrick F. Fischer, Judge, First District Court of Appeals, Jonathan Hollingsworth, J. Hollingsworth & Associates LLC, Dayton, David H. Lefton, Barron Peck Bennie & Schlemmer Co LPA, Cincinnati, Theodore M. Mann, Jr., Attorney at Law, Cleveland, Heather G. Sowald, Sowald, Sowald, Anderson & Hawley, Columbus.

Each of the lawyer panelists brings experience from his/her own firm. Heather Sowald, a Past President of the OSBA and OBLIC board member, practices in a small firm. Judge Patrick Fischer has expertise in professionalism issues and has often presented at seminars on the topic. In addition to their law firm experience, both Jonathan Hollingsworth and Theodore Mann serve as adjunct professors teaching Law Practice Management classes, Jonathan at University of Dayton School of Law and Ted at Cleveland Marshall Law School. David Lefton is the Chair of the Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Section.

The seminar will conclude with Disciplinary Counsel Jonathan E. Coughlan discussing Ethics of Minding Your Own Business and Scott R. Mote, Executive Director of Ohio Lawyers’ Assistance Program addressing Substance Abuse.
