The Ohio Board of Professional Conduct publishes Ethics Guides to address subjects of frequent inquiries to the staff of the Board.  While this is nonbinding advice, it provides guidance to the lawyers of Ohio.

The Ohio Ethics Guide: Succession Planning is an excellent preventative tool to assist Ohio lawyers in developing a succession plan to ensure the orderly transfer of client files in the event of the lawyer’s unexpected disability, death, disappearance or discipline. It lists the core elements of a succession plan and how to designate a successor lawyer.

Ohio Ethics Guide: Switching Firms provides guidance for attorneys who may be transitioning to a new firm. It provides forms to notify clients and a Checklist for Leaving a Law Firm.
